Best times to visit the Cederberg

Panoramic - Sneeuberg in Winter

The climate in the Cederberg is similar to that found in the Mediterranean. The best times for extended hikes and climbs are the Autumn months (March to April) and Spring to early Summer (September to December).  Winters are typically cold and wet (although actual rainfall is comparatively low); summers, on the other hand, are normally hot, dry and cloudless. Rainfall occurs mainly between May and September, and snowfall is common on high ground between June and August, although rarely lasts for long. Lower down, night time temperatures can drop below zero in winter and heavy frosts are likely.  Conversely, high summer (January and February) is usually very dry, and temperatures can reach as high as 40 deg.C.  Few people hike during this period.
