BASICS

Grade:
Very Strenuous - this is a high altitude trek and climb in a less habited section of the Himalaya, involving camping on most nights.  The trek passes through uninhabited forests, across rough glacial terrain, and involves a climb over glacier to almost 6500m.  Participants should be physically fit, and must feel competent to grasp basic snow and ice footwork under supervision.

Climbing Grade:
Alpine PD - For many years the climb was Alpine Grade F (Facile/Easy), but due to recent summit block changes the final 30-40 meters has become Alpine PD (Peu difficile)

Duration:
A minimum of 22 days, with arrival in Kathmandu on Day 1 and departure from Kathmandu on Day 22.

Altitude:
Much of the trek is spent at altitudes in excess of 4000m.  The North summit of Mera Peak is 6476m, making it the highest trekking peak in Nepal. Presently the North summit is heavily crevassed, and expeditions currently make for the Central Summit at 6461m.

Style:
The trek and climb will be lead by an experienced, personable “climbing” guide, supported by a team of porters.  This is a camping-style trek as it takes place in an undeveloped region featuring only a handful of basic lodges.

Minimum number of participants:
2 persons for tailor-made expeditions
4 persons for fixed date group treks
