Hiking in the Western Cape

Superb hiking terrain in South Africa is not confined to the Drakensberg - the immediate environs of Cape Town, a destination on many visitors’ hit list, offers easily accessed mountain activity direct from the metropolis, whether it be climbing iconic Table Mountain itself, or undertaking one of the many varied day-hikes along the scenically stunning Cape Peninsula; for serious hikers, it’s now possible to trek from Table mountain to Cape Point on the 5-day Hoerikwaggo Trail, staying in small, well-appointed camps; the trail is also broken up in to 2 days sections that can be hiked on their own, or linked together.  Looking further afield, a 3 hour drive from Cape Town brings you to the heart of the Cederberg Wilderness Area, a starkly beautiful mountain range featuring striking rock formations and summits touching 2000m.  There’s much to interest those seeking to undertake short scenic walks, as well as adventurers looking for tough challenges on multi-day treks.

What we do

We’ve been visiting Cape Town regularly since the early 1990’s, and know it intimately.  Whenever there, hiking is always on the agenda at some point, and we’ve done many of the Cape Peninsula trails ourselves, and have explored the Cederberg properly.  Using this experience, we’ve been running bespoke walking and trekking itineraries in the Cape Town environs and the Cederberg successfully for some years, and work with guides and logistics partners we know well and trust. We also place clients on fixed date Hoerikwaggo Trail departures, as well as arrange bespoke trails on the same lasting between 2 and 5 days.

Add-ons

More often than not, hiking makes up just one component of our client’s itineraries - thanks to our well-developed local knowledge, we are experts at designing complete itineraries in the Western Cape, arranging accommodation, transport, and non-trekking activities that include anything from township tours to whale-watching.
